About Ambula

Why Ambula exists

Ricardo Baptista

Ambula was born out of what I saw, over the years, as a doctor, a healthcare professional and a citizen.

I saw fragile patients — often in pain, anxious or having lost their independence — depending on transport to reach appointments, treatments and exams, or to get back home. I saw how a lack of accessibility, predictability and coordination can make an already vulnerable moment even harder.

I also saw this reality inside the hospital. Health transport isn't just a journey: it's a critical part of how the system works. When it fails — when there are delays or no-shows — discharges are held up, beds stay occupied, teams are overloaded, costs rise and the efficiency of the whole operation suffers.

But above all, I looked at this problem as a citizen, a father, a son and a human being. Because any one of us could one day be on the other side: on a stretcher, in a wheelchair, or beside someone we love.

Ambula exists to solve a real societal pain. We don't just want to digitise transport requests. We want to improve the way people move within the healthcare ecosystem. We want to reduce inefficiencies, support professionals, recognise good providers and, above all, protect those in the most fragile position.

Our vision begins with health mobility, but it doesn't end there. We're building a path that brings together mobility, care, education and innovation — because transforming this sector takes more than technology: it takes knowledge, training, collaboration, data and a new way of caring.

For us, technology is a layer — a very important one, but always at the service of people. In the right hands it can be deeply powerful: it lets us coordinate better, add visibility, cut waste, bring people closer and free up time for what matters most — caring with more humanity.
